Still too often taboo, hygiene and intimate care concern every woman throughout her life. Pharmacist’s advice to take care of your privacy without being aggressive.

How to take care of your privacy?

An external toilet once or twice a day maximum is enough: from the vulva to the anus, going up to the fold of the buttocks, with a dab of specific product (whose pH will be adapted to that of the vulvar area, more acidic than that of the skin). We avoid washing only with clear water (it can alter the protective hydrolipidic film and dry out the vulvar mucosa).

Are menstrual panties really healthier than conventional sanitary protection?

We proceed delicately, with (clean) hands, without a washcloth, a veritable nest of germs. We wipe each other carefully but without rubbing, gently dabbing the area with your personal towel.

>> We avoid anything that can irritate. Wipes, intimate deodorants, shower gels perfumed, antiseptic… so many irritating components for the intimate area to be avoided on a daily basis or to be used exceptionally. The vagina being self-cleaning, douching is bannedlikely to unbalance the flora and promote infections.

A care ofhygiene respondentis it at the bottom if necessary?

Yes, insofar as clear water does not sufficiently clean an area that is still very exposed to urine and blood… Washing it with the first soap that comes along, which is too foamy, too perfumed, will only weaken it. A formula designed specifically for the area respondentit is the guarantee of a gentle cleansing base, moisturizing and soothing active ingredients, and above all a specially studied pH.

This pH (or hydrogen potential) measures acidity or alkalinity, 7 being the number of neutrality. Below is the domain of acidity. Above, that of alkalinity (the medium is also said to be basic). A physiological pH corresponds more or less to 5.5. On a packaging, such a mention gives the “go” for daily use.

>> In case of mycosison the other hand, we will opt for an alkaline product, because fungi appreciate acidic environments to multiply.

Should you wash more often during your period?

toilet side, there is no need to wash more than usual when you have your period. On the protection side, we prefer 100% organic tampons and pads, without perfume or chloride. Even better, more economical and ecological, menstrual panties in fabric composed of cotton, bamboo and polyester. Rinse after use before machine washing.

Another option: the menstrual cup (or cup) which is inserted into the vagina and collects blood flow. In silicone or medical plastic, it respects the vaginal flora better than tampons. It must be washed before each use and sterilized each evening of the cycle.

In any case, we change protection every three to four hours, without forgetting to wash our hands before.

Intimate hygiene: when to consult?

  • In case of losses accompanied by itching, bleeding, strong and/or unusual odors, it is better to consult your gynecologist in order to be sure of the diagnosis, rather than making a mistake and using non-prescription treatments which can cause a reaction on inflamed mucous membranes.
  • In case of recurrent cystitis and persistent vaginal inflammation in postmenopausal women, a long-lasting lubricating treatment should be used about three times a week.
